Living in the tropics I really want to protect my boat from the the harmful UV rays of the sun. When not sailing, and at the dock, I always put my Sunbrella acrilan awnings up to keep my boat cool, and keep the varnish and paint out of the sun as much as possible.
Over many years we have made so many awnings. We have made them with side curtains, wooden dowls, aluminum rod, stainless steel tubing, you name it, for the struts that keep it stretched out over the deck.
Watch this video and see how we finally came up with the perfect awning, for us, that is tight, sheds water easily, never bends or breaks the struts, and most importantly so easy to put up and take down. I hope this gives you some ideas on how to make a really easy and long lasting awning for your boat.
