Christmas Morning aboard KANDARIK South Africa 1990!
When it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, I remember the wonderful Christmas celebrations we had aboard KANDARIK! We actually had what we called a dedicated “Christmas Locker” high out of reach of little curious hands. In the locker we kept a miniature Christmas tree, lots of colorful collected and home made ornaments, strings of 12 volt Christmas lights and, most importantly, Santa’s Christmas wrapped presents for Sammy and Jamie!
The strings of 12 volt Christmas tree lights were made by Paul Mitchell on WHITE CLOUD. Paul showed Andy how to convert our Christmas lights from 110 to 12 volts just for our Christmas Tree! This conversion was made aboard the lovely schooner WHITE CLOUD when anchored on the outer reef of Cook’s Bay in Tahiti in 1985!
How time flies by. How quickly children grow up. How lives change. And how lucky we all were to have such a wonderful life while sailing our sloop around the the world!
Christmas will always remind me of so many of our family holidays together aboard KANDARIK.
Thank you, Andy, for giving me and Sammy and Jamie so much joy!
