It’s not often I pick up a new sailing adventure book, and just cannot put it down. My house is a library with all the wonderful classics about our sailing and cruising lifestyle. I have read so many of these books over and over again and each time I enjoy them even more!
My bookshelves now have a new book that captured my attention so vividly, and honestly, I could not bare to put it down – BEYOND BOUNDARIES by Des Kearns. It is such an easy read, and sometimes I felt myself chuckling right along with the author. For those of you who do not know, Des Kearns has been a friend of my husband, Andy Wall, since they were teenagers in Australia. Both Des and Andy were born with a wanderlust that made them the formidable men they became.
The chapters are in a chronological order of the life of a dreamer, an adventurer, and onto becoming a professional seaman of the highest order. Des Kearns had the desire to go to great lengths for the sheer joy of doing something different and to become a qualified seaman who earns his living from the sea.
The way Des Kearns, with his great sense of humor, describes situations, some very tricky and even terrifying, and his descriptions of these experiences are so well described. I really felt I was right there. But, the most wonderful take away, and my favorite, is the humble way, and with a glint of mischief in his eye, Des describes the personalities of those who have shared these incredible experiences.
Des now lives in Thailand, although he is an Australian through and through. This latest edition of BEYOND BOUNDARIES was completed and published just as Covid hit the planet. He has been in Thailand lock down as so many others around the world. He did manage to get one box of the newest editions posted to me with ten copies. This book is not available on sites like Amazon, but instead on his website: https://deskearns.com. If you order from Des’ website, the book will ship from Thailand!
So if you are interested to own this wonderful sailing adventure book and you are located in the US, you can write to me here, or at pam@pamwall.com as I have nine copies left. I can post the book to you via USPS! I only have nine, so jump on the wagon and get this book before I run out!!
I want to thank Des for writing this book and for giving all readers a glimpse into his incredible life! And, by the way, I love the chapter that features CARRONADE in it!!! Check it out if you want to indulge in exciting, and very true, sailing stories.
Let me know how much you like BEYOND BOUNDARIES!!
