What a great time I had with Billy Black! Well known marine photographer, Billy Black was doing a photo shoot of a 134 foot megayacht, DOROTHEA III at the huge Derecktor Ship Yard in Dania, Florida. I was lucky to be there and watch the entire days worth of photo shooting orchestrated and conducted by Billy as his typical day of photographing yachts. It was hot and windy and dry and Billy never stopped for a second. All day he filmed the launching of the lovely DOROTHEA III while always waving hello and shouting something friendly to all the hard working men who made this launch at Derecktors look like a piece of easy cake.
After the impressive moving and launching of this huge yacht, Billy photographing all day, he returned before dawn the next morning to interview the Captain, John, and by 7:30am was back at the airport to catch a plane for another job. You could almost say, “the sun never sets on a Billy Black day of photo-shooting!”
I must say the men at Derecktor’s Ship Yard never misses a beat. The whole difficult procedure of launching and moving a yacht of that huge size was like watching a ballet. Everybody knew exactly what to do, when to do it, and without any fuss or bother this enormous yacht was put back into the water after her complete refit. Billy and the crew all agree that Derecktor’s Ship Yard is the best!
I was so impressed by everything that I witnessed that wonderful day in the life of Billy Black.
